The Seattle Public Schools Ethnic Studies Advisory Committee (ESAC) recently published a draft copy of its Math Ethnic Studies framework which tries to persuade people that math is racist and has a history of systematic oppression. There are four sections that the framework is broken into: “Origins, Identity, and Agency”, “Power and Oppression”, “History of Resistance and Liberation” and “Reflection and Action”.
One of the questions asked in the draft is “How is math manipulated to allow inequality and oppression to persist?”. The paper then furthers this oppression narrative by asking questions such as: “How is math manipulated to allow inequality and oppression to persist?”, “Who is doing the oppressing?” and “Who does the oppression protect? Who does this oppression harm?”
You really need to see this to believe it, so we’ve linked it below.Math SDS ES Framework
