The Virginia government has been rocked by multiple scandals over the last week and the most bizarre twist thus far has come from the sexual misconduct allegations made against Lieutenant Governor Justin Fairfax. Mr. Fairfax has just hired the same law firm which represented then-Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh during his confirmation hearings.
Meanwhile, Mr. Farifax’s accuser has hired the same firm who represented Christine Blasey Ford at those same confirmation hearings.
These allegations came to light when they were published by conservative website Big Leauge Politics however, they were not the first media organization that the accuser, Dr. Vanessa C. Tyson approached with the allegations. She first reported her claims to the Washington Post in 2017, who decided not to run the story because it “could not find anyone who could corroborate” it.
Since it was the post who breathlessly announced to the world the unverified, uncorroborated stories they received about Justice Kavanaugh, it’s a case of either flagrant hypocrisy or just bad journalism. It will be interesting to see if the Democrats still “believe ALL women” as more details of this case come out, or if they will find a way to not believe this specific woman.
Lt. Gov. Fairfax has denied all allegations against him, saying in a statement “while this allegation has been both surprising and hurtful, I also recognize that no one makes charges of this kind lightly, and I take it and this situation very seriously.”
