If you haven’t already heard or read how Sinclair owned station’s news journalists repeating the “fake news” script, you will soon. John Oliver, who is an English comedian, writer and producer, poked fun at the Sinclair Broadcasting Group after many news journalists recently read a script revolving around social media and fake news. What’s interesting is that this company not only owns FOX stations, they also own ABC, NBC and CBS stations, too.
Here’s an excerpt:
“Nothing says ‘We value independent media’ like dozens of reporters forced to repeat the same message over and over again like members of a brainwashed cult,” the HBO host said on “Last Week Tonight.”
Oliver’s comments follow reports last month that right-leaning Sinclair mandated all local affiliate stations have anchors read aloud a promotional campaign that condemns other news outlets for pushing “fake stories.” Anchors say in the script that they are “concerned about the troubling trend of irresponsible, one-sided news stories plaguing our country.”
