As the House Oversight Committee met on Wednesday, Hunter Biden unexpectedly appeared as an audience member. The lawmakers had met to discuss whether to hold him in contempt of Congress. The President’s son was criticized for his appearance by Republican members, including Rep. Nancy Mace (R-SC), who demanded to know who bribed him to appear at the hearing as well as the ultimate example of white privilege.
Democrats questioned the legitimacy of the contempt resolution, as they pointed to Republican members who ignored congressional subpoenas related to the January 6 attack on the U.S. Capitol.
Hunter only stayed for a few minutes, abruptly leaving just as Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) was given the floor to speak. MTG called the President’s son a coward, pointing out the hypocrisy of the prosecution of the January 6 detainees while Hunter Biden gets off scot-free.
Ultimately, the lawmakers voted along party lines to move the contempt resolution against Hunter Biden out of committee to the entire House floor where all members would vote.
