President Trump remains the overwhelming choice of conservatives for the 2024 Republican presidential nomination which was confirmed by the result of the annual straw poll at the 2021 Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) over the weekend.

The 45th president bested 20 fellow Republicans, receiving 55 percent of the vote. Florida Governor Ron DeSantis was the runner-up with 21 percent of the vote. No other candidate received more than four percent.

A separate question asked attendees who their choice would be if Trump were not in the race. DeSantis was the clear favorite with 43 percent with South Dakota Governor Kristi Noem and Donald Trump Jr. receiving 11 percent and 8 percent, respectively.

One more interesting question made it clear that the GOP is overwhelmingly united behind the former president’s “America first” agenda with 95 percent of conference-goers saying that Republicans should carry on the policies of the Trump Administration.

The conference concluded with a rousing speech from President Trump in which he slammed his successor, defended his legacy, dashed rumors of a third party, called for election integrity reforms and teased a 2024 presidential run saying:

“With your help, we will take back the House, we will win the Senate and in 2024, a Republican president will make a triumphant return to the White House. And I wonder who that will be…”

Trump also sounded off on fellow Republicans who have earned a place on his you-know-what list, calling out by name GOP members of Congress who supported his impeachment including U.S. Senators Mitt Romney, Ben Sasse, Richard Burr, Bill Cassidy, Susan Collins, Lisa Murkowski, and Pat Toomey. He also named Congress members Tom Rice, Adam Kinzinger, Dan Newhouse, Anthony Gonzalez, Fred Upton, Jamie Herrera-Butler, Peter Meyer, John Katko, David Valadeo, and Liz Cheney.

A primary challenger to one of those named received the honor of receiving Trump’s first endorsement since leaving the White House. He endorsed Republican Max Miller who is challenging Ohio GOP Congressman Anthony Gonzalez.

The 45th president called any donations intending to support his agenda to be made exclusively to either the Save America PAC or DonaldJTrump.com.
