The Bible Describes This Moment in American History

Lance: Well you know the thing that I want to focus on right now Mercedes is that we should actually be looking at all these events in the context of will the American people continue to divide along these strange narrative’s lines. Basically those that believe, those that have been deceived into believing that all Trump supporters are insurrect that Donald Trump is a criminal. I think that realistically it’s a very small percentage of America. It’s a large percentage of media and Washington, and therefore they’re out of touch with the American people. And I think the kind of backlash that they experience with the Mar–a–Lago raid. Once we find out what the premises with the warrants and everything, will be that the American people be very sour on this overreach of government. Nobody likes the and nobody likes the authoritarian image and I think it’s going to it backfire, but listen to this breaking story which has to do within, I don’t want you to miss this. 

There’s a congressman in Pennsylvania named Scott Perry and the FBI confiscated his phone in an exclusive statement. He told Fox News that while traveling with his family earlier today, he was approached by three FBI agents who handed him a warrant and demanded his cellphone. The confiscation of a Republican Congressman’s personal phone came one day after the FBI agent searched Mar–a–Lago. This morning he says, ‘While traveling with my family. Three FBI agents visited me and seized my cellphone. They made no attempt to contact my lawyer who would have made arrangements for them to have my phone if that was what they wanted. I’m outraged though not surprised. This congressman says, the FBI under the direction of Merrick Garland’s Department of Justice would seize the phone of a member of Congress. My phone contains information about my legislative and political activities my personal life my private life discussions that are private with my children and my wife and my friends. None of this is the government’s business.’

So, Perry asserted his statement that as, with President Trump last night the Department of Justice chose this aggressive unnecessary action instead of just contacting attorneys and observing the rule of law. These kinds of Banana Republic tactics should concern every citizen especially consider the decision before congress. This week to expand the IRS to 87,000 new agents to further persecute the law-abiding citizens of the United States. He’s no newcomer. He’s a 5-term congressman he has a history and he’s a conservative member of the Freedom Caucus.So, they’re going after the Freedom Caucus which is the MAGA Group.

Perry was also a strong supporter of Trump’s in term of his claims that the election loss was unproven claims about his 2020 election laws. Which means he supports the thesis that the Democrats stole the election. So, Perry’s been a target of interest among the Democrats who dominate the January 6th House Select Committee. So, this is another evidence of the abuse the dangerous abuse of government, let this be heated right now. When you go after a congressman, I can’t see them going after anybody’s alpha but to go after a congressman or a governor or a senator or a former president, I say, we’re in biblical times people and this is why I’m not as disturbed as other people.

Remember what Jesus said to the disciples. He said, ‘Now look, when these things, certain things begin to happen, see that you’d be not troubled.’ Now, why would you be not troubled and he says this, ‘Remember before they happen, I told you.’ And what that implies is that the God who is overseeing history knows what’s coming in the future and warns you about what’s coming. So,you shouldn’t be unduly alarmed when things happen as though don’t create a fictional narrative in your head that all you got to do is pray. We just got to get Trump back in office and all these kinds of what I would say are adolescent narratives and let’s press into an adult.

Paul said, the apostle Paul said, ‘In thinking, be mature.’ And mature thinking says this, The Bible tells you. The book of Acts if you read it is the story as you often say Mercedes, is a story about how the apostolic movement was a disruption of the status quo and that as a result there were political upheavals. There were mobs that were flash mobs. There were court cases that had to do with believers being taken to jail and then being taken to court. And the other side of it is the and the governments in those stories ended up often sympathetic to cooperative with and advancing God‘s agenda.

I think that that’s the other side of this that God works through even the convoluted systems of first century Roman dominated Asia and Europe still had victories for the apostolic movement.Because once they were embedded in the system the system had deal with it.

Mercedes: Yeah, I want to highlight this this is something that God‘s been speaking to me about lately is really doing a deep dive in the book of Acts. Because one advantage we have about how the devil works and operates through human agency is that he’s not original. That it’s always the same thing over and over again from the time Nehemiah and Ezra around to what we see in Acts to Jesus being killed. I mean, false witness born against Jesus and so it always follows a certain pattern. I’ll just highlight briefly kind of the order that tends to going which is mockery. Mocking the fact that the minute you try to do something offensive for the kingdom of God and try to get engaged in this culture world and turn the world upside down like Paul and Silas. You’re going to be mocked. There’s going to be threats made against you. There’s going to be false witness put against you. You’re going to be falsely imprisoned.

All of those things are possible. Even to the point of death threats and plots against your life. I mean time and time again we see this. I mean look at Trump. Look at President Trump. He was mocked when he originally started to run. The whole Russia gate, false witness, false accusation, made-up stories that the body of Christ needs to your point mature to a place where we’re not watching the news starting to thinking, oh surely something really must be wrong here. I mean, like you say, it’s Kabuki Theater. It’s made up lie after made up lie. We have to be shrewd. We have to be as cunning as serpents and as to his doves, but there is biblical precedent Lance.

Lance: Yeah, and I think that listen, this is so biblical. You can go throughout the entire Bible now and open up your eyes and I think that God‘s doing that. I think he’s showing us how the persecuted church isn’t always the defeated church. Many times the persecuted church is the price you pay for ultimate victory. I want to go to the Psalms, Psalms of David for instance for a moment and this is the life of King David, the third king in Israel. But the spiritual realm hasn’t changed since man was created. And interestingly enough, human nature hasn’t changed or you could try to tell me that a man is a woman, as a woman is a man. That’s just a convoluted evolution of what the Bible refers to as a perversion of judgement.

The reality is there are no new human emotions. There are no new human sins. There’s just new technology with which to sin. But the same drama is played out in all of history, which is why the Bible so instructed. Because it gives us a perspective on the narrative from God‘s perspective as to the battle of truth and error throughout history. Let me just read to you a chapter in the life of King David. See if this couldn’t be Donald Trump having to have, go to Psalm 35 if you want to catch this one. Go anywhere. Verse 15.

‘But at my stumbling they rejoiced and gather themselves together. The smiters whom did not know gathered against me. They slandered me constantly without ceasing. Like Godless gestures, gestures, like late night comedians. At a feast, they gnashed at me with their Stephen Colbert dentures. Lord, how long will you look on? Rescue my soul from their ravages, my only life from the lions. I will give you thanks in the great congregation. I’m going to praise you of them in amidst of the mighty throng. Do not let those who are wrongfully my enemies rejoice over me nor let those who hate me without any justification continue to wink maliciously at one another over what they’re doing to me. They do not speak peace but they devise deceitful manipulated words and they target those that are quiet and those that are supported in the land. They go after the innocent in the land. They open their mouth wide against me and then they say deceptively. Our eyes have seen something whether it’s Russia, whether it’s Ukraine, whether it’s Mar-a-Lago. We’ve seen something and we’re going to show it to you. You’ve seen this, oh Lord. Do not keep silent. Do not be far from me. Stir up yourself and awake to my right and to my cause. Oh my God, my Lord. Judge me, oh Lord God, according to your righteousness but do not let them rejoice over me. Do not let them say in their heart. We got what we wanted. Do not let them say, we’ve swallowed him up and destroyed him. Let those be ashamed and humiliated all together who rejoice at my distress and let them be clothed with shame and dishonor, who are wrongfully magnifying themselves against me.’

Folks, I know New Testament preachers that come against me for quoting these Bible verses. You know why? They say, they have some imprecatory prayers. You have to be a theologian to come with a term like imprecatory. Imprecatory prayers which mean that every prayer in the Bible that is in a bless them lord, love them Lord, forgive them lord is like they they’re as bad as Thomas Jefferson. He took all the supernatural out of the New Testament and whatever was left, he believed was the rock-solid philosophy of Jesus. Will you take away these prayers and you take away the Bible. What David is saying is, ‘Let them be humiliated who wrongfully devised and coordinated for your public official who you put in office to be embarrassed and harassed. Turn this on them oh Lord. And let them shout for joy and rejoice, who favor my vindication in this great contest. Let them continually say, oh God be magnified for you delight in the prosperity of those who actually serve you. My tongue shall declare you are right oh God, and I will praise you all day long.’

Tell me that isn’t a Psalm written for every Mike Flynn or Giuliani whose office is being raided or Roger Stone who’s being taken out front at 6 AM in the morning in front of CNN in his pajamas or Peter Navarro who’s being put in leg irons at the airport. This is a moment when you have to have the self-control not to punch back because of the malice and the evil that you’re up against, but to fix your prayer to God, then what prayer do you pray? There’re two or three kinds of people you’re working with. Jesus said to love your enemies. That tells you one thing, you do have enemies and what you love is, ‘Oh God, they’re made in your image. They’re deceived by a spirit. I pray that you deliver them from that deception. And there are those that are in the ranks of your enemies who are not going to be undeceived and they actually know what they’re doing.’

And in that case the apostle Paul says that, God has given them over to a spirit of delusion that they should believe a lie. Which is a form of judgement. Because if they believe the line, Godsays, that’s it. You don’t die that moment, but you’re done that moment because God stops wrestling with you. He starts working against you to thwart your influence for the sake of those that are still open to repentance and seeing the truth of the situation. We are heading to the midterms. The Bible has a chapter for that. It’s if you go to Nehemiah, I guess you could crawl around there. Go to Nehemiah. You’ll find that book somewhere after Ezra and Chronicles and somewhere before Job.

Now, Nehemiah was a governor in Israel. He was a political figure and his job was to rebuild the boundaries around the collapse society of Jerusalem. Tell me that isn’t a prophetically pregnant metaphor or an analogy or parallel I should say to our times right now. It’s not even a metaphor. It’s history repeating itself. He said and now came about in chapter 4 that when Sand Ballot, who’s a political enemy, heard that we were succeeding in rebuilding the wall. I want to really infuriate some of my political enemies now, I’ll translate it for media matters. When the enemies in government heard the results of the primaries that happened before the midterms, they became furious and very angry and began to devise a plot. They mocked us. They made fun of us. They criticized us and they slandered us.

And Nehemiah spoke in the presence of his brothers and the wealthy men of Samaria and he said, they are right now telling us that these feeble, this feeble movement. These feeble Jews. What are they going to do? What do they think they’re going to do? Do they think they’re going to restore the country to where it was before? And so, they began to mock them. And here is what Nehemiah did. Again a prayer. ‘Here, oh Lord hear how we are despised. Return their reproach on their own heads. And give them up for plunder in the land of captivity. Do not forgive the iniquity nor let their sin be blotted out before you. For they have labored to demoralize those that you’ve called to build.’

So we built the wall and the whole wall was joined together to half its height for the people had a mind to work. They got to the halfway point, the midterm point. All of this craziness happened because they were working successfully and they were at the midterms you could say or at the midpoint in their wall assignment in their generation. And when Sand Ballot and Tobiah and the Arabs and the Ammonites and the Ashedites heard that the repair of the walls of Jerusalem was going on successfully that the gaps were being closed. They were very angry and entered into a conspiracy together to come and fight against Jerusalem and to create some form of disturbance in their labor.

That’s what you’re dealing with now. The chapter headings are added by the editors. “The work is being ridiculed as they did it”. And then catch this one. The next chapter heading is, “Their discouragement was overcome”. They unified their attacks made them more unified and that’s exactly what’s happening these attacks are even taking neutral people and saying what the heck is the Department of Justice and the FBI doing. They just got up the witness stand last week on corruption and they’re going to double down. Well, that’s when your enemies destroying themselves.

Mercedes: I think it follows up in that chapter where the plots exposed that they’re actually warned that they’re conspiring to kill all of the Jews there’s a warning that’s given and then they arm. At that point as they’re rebuilding they decide to arm all the Jews where everyone had a sword and some watched and some built but even the builders had a sword and a trial. So and you see it with Paul as well the plot against Paul’s life it’s exposed where his, I think it’s his nephew over here’s in the temple when they’re conspiring to kill Paul and it’s exposed. So my prayer right now with the overreach of government currently is exposed Lord. Expose, expose,because there’s biblical precedent for that as well.

I’m going to throw one more comment in that in Acts it’s really interesting there’s three groups that target the work of God and the people of God as they’re expanding the gospel. It’s the political leaders at the time. It’s the religious leaders at the time and then also business people.So, there’s two instances where business people stir up mobs against the church, because their revenue is going down.

Lance: When they’re making idols.

Mercedes: Yeah, and then it’s also the religious like that’s my concern as we go into what God‘s about to do. It’s a new thing and you see, you’ve addressed it from time to time Lance but this idea of Christian nationalism. Oh Christian nationalism, that Christians awaken to the responsibility of civic engagement is somehow contrary to the Word of God. So, that’s the new lie that’s really emerging that I think is going to kind of split the church into two different camps.So anyways, just a couple different comments.

Lance: I think it’s all relevant. What we’re saying for those that are out there is, the Bible actually speaks with greater relevance to where we are now than there I say our preachers have been speaking for a while. Because during a period of domestic tranquility and prosperity, we had our conspiracy voices that were warning. But for the most part the church’s emphasis was on personal blessing and success in life and dealing with stress and relationship matters. All which are valid and which are going to continue to the end. But the Bible will become a new book to you. When you start to read it in the context of a culture that is invading a culture and we have for a long time been in a kind of a truce with the culture and losing ground. We’ve been politely backing up and backing up and backing up. And you keep backing up till there’s no more backup, you can go without going over a cliff. Now we have to form a wall and say we cannot go any further back.

The aggression is now manifesting and in a sense the failure of the church to raise the alarm earlier in several areas of cultural decay now is revealed. Because that decay is not going to coexist with you. I remember when gay marriage was an issue years ago and the argument was,why can’t you just let people live and let live and that was the argument. The concern was I don’t think it’s going to be live and let live. I think you’re going to go into every single area of society and begin to force us to have to embrace what you’ve got. This won’t be live and let live. It’ll be us being forced to bow the knee to what you want to do.

Right now, the Biden administration is holding school lunches hostage throughout America unless the school system signs on to the equity agenda including embracing the transgenders and the open bathrooms and the opportunity for young men to become women and women to become men and compete mostly men becoming women to compete in sports. They’re holding the school system hostage, because I’m sorry to say this isn’t a live and let live agenda. This is a you will be made to submit agenda, and they’re doing it not just in the cultural front but in the political front, the economic front and every other front. And the good news is the Bible tells us that in the end, God‘s people unified win. We’ll be back again with our next broadcast to talk more about that.
