National Guard Set To Stay In DC Until Fall

An internal email seen by Fox 5 DC showed that the National Security Council has asked the DoD to coordinate with Capitol police to continue their deployment past March. Originally thousands of troops were set to remain in Washington, D.C. throughout March and on Monday a National Guard spokesperson told Fox on Monday that there were still 6,000 guard members on duty in the capital.

The National Guard presence began just prior to President Joe Biden’s inauguration, with 25,000 troops deployed to Washington with some of those deployed expected to stay until the end of March.

Rep. Lisa McClain is among a group of House Republicans calling on Nancy Pelosi to explain to members of Congress why the troops are now expected to stay until fall.

“Myself and several of my colleagues have asked Nancy Pelosi for a briefing as to ‘Why do we need these troops here?’ And we have received zero information, zero,” McClain told Fox and Friends on Monday.

She also said that she wants to understand why the extension is being considered, as she feels “completely safe” and sits on the House Armed Services Committee.
