Congresswoman Liz Cheney will soon lose her title and seat in the U.S. House of Representatives after a stunningly overwhelming loss to her Trump-backed challenger.
Harriet Hageman, an attorney and former RNC Committeewoman, defeated Cheney by a stunning 37-point margin of victory.
With 99 percent of votes counted, Hageman received 66 percent to Cheney’s 29 percent. That’s an even bigger lead than the 20 to 30 points that many polls predicted.
President Trump wasted no time celebrating Cheney’s defeat, posting the following to his social media platform Truth Social:
“Congratulations to Harriet Hageman on her great and very decisive WIN in Wyoming. This is a wonderful result for America, and a complete rebuke of the Unselect Committee of political Hacks and Thugs. Liz Chaney should be ashamed of herself, the way she acted, and her spiteful, sanctimonious words and actions towards others. Now she can finally disappear into the depths of political oblivion where, I am sure, she will be much happier than she is right now. Thank you WYOMING!”
One of the likely reasons for Hageman surging in the final days of the campaign was Cheney’s foolish decision to have her father, former Vice President Dick Cheney, cut an aggressive anti-Trump ad calling him “the biggest threat” we’ve ever faced.
U.S. Senator Rand Paul, no stranger to conflict with the Cheneys, chimed in on Twitter:
“Few people in Washington have been as wrong and damaging on foreign policy as Liz Cheney. Congratulations to @HagemanforWY on her victory tonight. I look forward to working with an advocate for liberty as the next Congresswoman from Wyoming. Bye Liz.”
Republican Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene offered her two cents as well, writing, “A clear message is being sent about what the Republican Party needs to be. It’s not anything like liar Liz Chaney, who is nothing like Abraham Lincoln.”
President Trump’s son, Donald Trump Jr., also piled on, tweeting, “Bye bye @Liz_Cheney. On the bright side at least you won’t have to pretend to be from Wyoming anymore.”
