In possibly one of the most significant primaries this year, Liz Cheney was soundly defeated, and by a large margin no less, by Trump-backed candidate, Attorney Harriet Hageman.

Hageman won against Cheney by nearly 40 points.

Cheney made some surprising statements during her concession speech Tuesday night. She hinted that she was not done with politics saying, “now the real work begins.”

The congresswoman spoke around 10:15 p.m. EDT while Hageman had a significant lead. Hageman had 113,025 votes, or 66.3 percent, to Cheney’s 49,316 votes, or 28.9 percent, with 99 percent of the votes counted at the time.

Cheney referred to President Lincoln and General Grant during her speech and also compared herself TO Lincoln, saying, “The great original champion of our party, Abraham Lincoln, was defeated in elections for the Senate and the house before he won the most important election of all. Lincoln ultimately prevailed. He saved our union, and he defined our obligation as Americans for all of history.”

Cheney continued, “Lincoln and Grant and all who fought in our nation’s tragic civil war, including my own great-great-grandfathers, saved our union; their courage saved freedom,” Cheney said. “And if you listen closely, they’re speaking to us down the generations. We must not idly squander what so many have fought and died for.”

In conclusion, Cheney pledged to “do whatever it takes” to prevent Trump from regaining control of the presidency.

In an interview Wednesday with Today Show host Savannah Guthrie, Cheney was asked for a more concrete answer regarding her future political plans.

“That’s a decision I’m going to make in the coming months… It is something I’m thinking about.”

Cheney, known for her work on the January 6 Committee, also stated, “We have a tremendous amount of work to do on the January 6 committee, and I’m going to be making sure that people across this country understand the stakes of what we’re facing.”
