During a hearing of the January 6th Committee that took place Monday, December 13th, Representative Liz Cheney (R-WY) read off several texts sent to former White House Chief of Staff, Mark Meadows. Cheney read the texts in question as showing several people close to then-President Donald Trump, including his son, were surprised by the Capitol riot and reached out to him to speak against it—which he then did. Several texts read were by Fox News anchors including, Laura Ingraham and Sean Hannity. The panel later voted to recommend that the full House vote hold Meadows in contempt of Congress and refer him for prosecution to the Department of Justice, even though Meadows has provided information to the committee. While the video of her reading the texts is being passed off as a blow to Trump supporters, many have taken to social media to downplay it, others criticizing her, implying it as a “nothing burger.”
Conservatives like Jenna Ellis, a constitutional lawyer, voiced their thoughts on social media:
In which we discussed how the 1/6 committee has zero legislative purpose in leaking docs and Liz Cheney absolutely kneecapped her own narrative by reading the Don Jr texts to Meadows.
The only thing premeditated here is the Committee’s attempt to lie about Trump. https://t.co/3Bdf6uLQ7u
