Episode Transcript

Lance: O Boy, O Boy, here we are at the NRB and we’re having one wonderful time. Now listen, I’ve only done one interview so far but the person I saw walking through out of all these exhibits is Barry Maguire. You’ve got to meet my friend Barry Maguire. I think anyone who meets him one time feels like he’s my friend, Barry Maguire. He has the evangelist Gibbs. Jesus the Evangelist comes through certain people. It’s in him. It’s a charisma. Now you might know him from Maguire Wax because all of especially when I was a younger guy and I used to wax my car before they had the hot wax thing you go through. This was the wax we would use. But then I did not know that you were actually an evangelist using a highly successful car wax as a vehicle. Talk to us about how you ended up doing what you do.

Barry Maguire: Well, it’s interesting. Karen and I first off when we first got married, I mean lifetime Christians and you know I’ve been through I know the Lord. But we didn’t any joy. And we were serving and volunteering but we didn’t have any joy. So, we started looking for been praying for joy and I met Herb Ellingwood. He was a legal affairs secretary for Governor Reagan. And he was the speaker at a lunch I was at. I sat beside him for an hour. I wouldn’t hear all about Reagan. Do you actually pray in Reagan’s office in Sacramento whatever? We never talked about Reagan. For an hour before he spoke, he told me one faith sharing story after another. Laughing and you’ll not believe what happened last night and I walked away from out in tears. I said, I want what he has.

Lance: Wow.

Barry Maguire: And when I get to heaven, I got to thank him for talking to this young guy back in those days he had no idea. But from that then Karen I started sharing our faith and within a month or so we were laughing one day we’ve got joy. We’ve already have joy. So, that was 1973. By 1976 I thought I was God was going to leave me away from my business. It was a small tiny little business at that time. And we were having fun sharing our faith with that. That’s what God wants to do. So, I prayed the most fervent prayer of my life one day. I closed the door in my house and said God I think you’re leading me to full time ministry. And I just want to do what you want me to do. Whatever it is. I’m all in. But you’re almost going to just speak to me in an audible voice. Okay. Not 20 minutes later a guy came into my office that I’d never met but I knew who he was from our church. A missionary kid. Okay, he’s my age but he grew up in on the mission field in Africa named David Nunn. And he’s, I was just in the area so I’d stop by. It was kind of weird. Okay. He says, have a someone tell what’s going on so that mission must not be interested in car wax. I started telling some faith-sharing experience. He says, ‘God has given you a wonderful ministry here, hadn’t he?’ I said, ‘Wait a minute, why would you say that?’ He said, ‘Because the people you’re reaching, a pastor couldn’t reach but as a businessman, you can, folks and wherever you are, you can.’

Lance: Y’all paying attention on this?

Barry Maguire: And he says, ‘It’s obvious that your business is your pulpit.’ Now, I seen him over laughing but I didn’t realize they’re the same thing inseparable and so that lets them understand that everything we do is scriptural, is spiritual. There’s nothing secular in our lives. In fact, you’re taking the point we understand folks is everybody. Everything you do and say is moving everybody watching you closer or further away from God.

Lance: Wow.

Barry Maguire: When you realize that and then every conversation you have you never have a secular conversation anymore. Because God is speaking through you to that person ministering to them. Moving them closer and further away depending on their receptivity. That’s he’s usually so when he loves us, he is salvationing us. And when he’s loving others through us he’s salvationing them. So that makes every conversation change completely. And everything you do changes completely. And when you love your neighbor as yourself, you’re as concerned for their salvation as you are your own and so now everything you say, the jokes you laugh at, the things you do, the things you indulge in that you may not stop you lead people to Jesus. So, everything and so you fulfill the whole law. Every everything works because you’re in sync with God and then it just opens a door to everything else.

Lance: So, Barry is saying that everything we do, every conversation interaction we have is either moving people closer to or further from.

Barry Maguire: You can’t get away from it.

Lance: Kingdom of God.

Barry Maguire: You can’t get away from it.

Lance: That’s a shocking proposition.

Barry Maguire: It is.

Lance: Well that really messes up the Sunday morning church Monday at Business Man. Tell it. So, to you Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday. It’s all the same thing because your pulpit is your business. Your business is your pulpit.

Barry Maguire: Yeah.

Lance: That does change things a lot when you see that that way.

Barry Maguire: It just every think.

Lance: What did your business weight take off? Because it didn’t stay small.

Barry Maguire: Well, my granddad started our business 1901 with furniture polish, okay? Creating a perfect finish on Black Lacquer Furniture. But the horses’ carriages came along and they started using his furniture polish on horses’ carriage and it became a carriage polish one thing after another. Till finally, 60 years later, I get out of college. We’re doing $600,000 a year buffing cars and body shops and dealerships and God gives me the inspiration to go retail. Now, we’re the number one selling car wax. But that all happened post our understanding that the business was my pulpit it’s not my God. I worked 18-hour days for 30 years, don’t get me wrong I worked hard. Lance: Yeah.

Barry Maguire: But never had my joy never had my heart no matter what happen. If the customer turned me down that my goal was, I want to lead them closer to Jesus. So, it changes everything every conversation, you don’t care, you’re just going to move everybody every day. And when you do that, you live in the promise of Romans 8:28 where he says, “Everything works for good”. He does that and he means it but there’s it’s a contrast.

Lance: Run that by me so.

Barry Maguire: Okay. We don’t we know the even know everything works together for good. They’ve heard the scripture. But it didn’t work good for me. You know maybe for somebody else not for me.

Lance: Right.

Barry Maguire: Oh yeah it will. This is amazing promise from God. He’s saying I’ll make everything in your life work together for good if you do two things. Okay? You got to read the whole scripture.

Lance: The whole verse says something else.

Barry Maguire: When you read the whole thing it’s when you love me and you love your neighbors. In this case he said when you love me and you live for my purpose. His purpose was to seek and save the live. Really? So, when you lived to seek and save the lost. When I live every moment of every day to seek and save the lost, then I enter into his promise to make everything in my life work together for good. That frees me. We’re done with worry destroys this this book. Defeat Worry with Effortless Faith. That’s how you get.

Lance: Defeat Worry with Effortless Faith. Alright.

Barry Maguire: By sharing your faith.

Lance: I know. I can’t believe we’re running out of time here. I want to talk to you about two things. One, what’s the world right now? Because here’s what I’m saying. we’re going to go ignite your life. We’re going to talk about this book in a second. But the world is, I’m noticing a lot of people because it’s getting so negative Barry and I do a news analysis, so I try to be something responsible. I try to find the optimistic rate, but it’s very so but you something so interesting to me. You said, it’s never been better for the [INAUDIBLE WORD 7:36].

Barry Maguire: Oh, it hasn’t been. It hasn’t been.

Lance: For real.

Barry Maguire: Really? Oh, it’s so much fun because over 80% of the insurance. Listen to this. These are amazing statistics. Over 80%. Now 90% of our populations at church. They’re blinded.

Lance: 90% okay.

Barry Maguire: They’re blinded. They’re not bad. They’re blinded. They’re lost. They’re lost. How are they going to know unless we tell them we’re not telling them only 1% of us 80% of them know. Only 1% of us are telling him and it’s so much fun. You don’t have excuse how they’re getting mad at me. No. No. It’s just exactly the opposite and over 80% of the end church know the world’s out of control. Duh. They would like to believe there’s a God who can rescue us to bring sense in the chaos. They want that. They’re looking for somebody to tell them and get this. They already have over 80% of the end church already have at least one Christian in their life that they trust.

Lance: What?

Barry Maguire: Lance, we could ignite America the revival in 30 days.

Lance: Wait, you said 80% they know a Christian.

Barry Maguire: A Christian they trust.

Lance: That they trust.

Barry Maguire: We could ignite America the revival in 30 days. If we just get off the bench if we just start doing, we got to get off the bench. But most importantly we close that because we don’t have any time. It’s a huge story. We’ll do some more later, but the fact of the matter is it’s secondary to win the lost. If we don’t share our faith, we activate down into what the church is today, sitting and not doing anything and just complaining about everything. But when you do this, it ignites your life and Isaiah 43:10, this great scripture. He actually says, why? “I point you as my witness so that you will believe”. If I was God, I’d say so that they will believe but no, he says, so that you will believe because when you share your faith and you feel God speak it through you, forget the recitations and memorization all that. The most prolific Christians that are sharing their faith are new Christians, right?

Lance: Right.

Barry Maguire: They don’t have any training. You don’t need any training. Just share your love for God and Luke 12:12 says, “He’ll give you the words to say”. And when they come out of you and you don’t even realize they come for, yeah, you do. They keep in the Holy Spirit and you see a life change, you realize God just use me.

Lance: Barry, I think a lot of us are afraid of talking to people. We’re afraid.

Barry Maguire: No, but we’re afraid of loving people.

Lance: We always been this extroverted though. It looks to me like we’re wired.

Barry Maguire: Well, I bet I’ve been doing it for 50 years of course. But I interview people that are doing it right away since the books come out. I had a person just 20 minutes ago, tell me how he’s sharing his face prolifically every day now. He hadn’t shared it all before that. He said, but you don’t get out of your comfort zone. You just love on people. Just love on people. And allow them. If you love on people the Holy Spirit will confirm that your love is real and they open up to you within 5 minutes. They’re telling the deepest problems and then the Holy Spirit gives you the words to say it’s the most amazing thing and most Christians have never experienced the reality of what it means to be a Christian to be a part of walking with God.

Lance: I notice you have QR codes in here. What what’s going on here? Life is about redemption. Tell me what I’m running into on that page.

Barry Maguire: So, every chapter you get me. Okay. Every chapter you get a three-minute or so video of me talking stressing one of the points in the book.

Lance: What a brilliant idea.

Barry Maguire: And it works fabulous.

Lance: What a God idea.

Barry Maguire: And more importantly is at the end of every chapter, okay. If I can find the end of a chapter right quick you have scriptures.

Lance: Okay, talking to Mike. Make sure you’re talk to the Mike.

Barry Maguire: Oh, yeah scriptures. They have all these scriptures. So, every chapter is faced with if you just read the scriptures, it’ll change your life.

Lance: Yeah.

Barry Maguire: My trappings are just to explain the perspective of what it means to live those scriptures but it’s the word of God that changes us. And they’re all in here.

Lance: Alright, so Barry they can get the book where?

Barry Maguire: Well, “Amazon.com” is easy obviously, but they audiobooks, Barnes and Noble wherever you get books.

Lance: Did you read your book and did you read your book? Audiobook?

Barry Maguire: Audiobook. Absolutely.

Lance: I mean is it you?

Barry Maguire: Oh yeah, I read it.

Lance: Are you serious?

Barry Maguire: 65,000 words and I read every word. You got to read it perfectly when you do it. I did the whole thing. Loved every moment of it. And I got to tell you I don’t make any money off the book. But we’re getting back as a people coming and saying, I just bought 10 books for all my friends. I’m buying books all over the place and listening to an audio book and having a lot of fun with it.

Lance: This is a hoop. We have got to have you back because I’ve got the book and then Gordon Pennington, my friend Gordon Pennington, the two of you are like.

Barry Maguire: Get us together. Oh, my goodness.

Lance: Oh my God.

Barry Maguire: Oh my God. We’d have some fun.

Lance: It would be shocking.

Barry Maguire: Yeah.

Lance: Because I think the secret is I interviewed him. I mean, I did a quick forensic on it. I said, wait, wait, Gordon, I’ve known you for years. So, this is like your start, people can just begin this new lifestyle really.

Barry Maguire: It change like that. No training required like that. You resolve right now folks. You resolve right now from this moment forward, I’m going to move everybody every day closer to Jesus. Don’t just do good things. Christians are great at doing good things but they don’t connect God.

Lance: Give me an example from the last 10 or seven days. That’s the most outstanding example of a random pulpit.

Barry Maguire: Well, I went to see Dave Durecki for lunch the other day. Okay? The picture of the San Francisco Giants that lost his arm and he has his great testimony, and my friend Jay Snyder pulled up and it was 1:30. The parking lot was empty. He could’ve parked anyway. He parked in front of a car, another car. I get out. The hood was open to that car and a black guy. Can I say black guy? Appears with a big sparklets bottle and he’s pouring it into the radiator. So, I jumped down and ran right to him. He just automatically, I didn’t even think about it. I just do. I look every time I got a moment. I could just go talk I just want an excuse to talk to people. Yeah, what a beautiful family you have. God bless you. I mean it’s just so much fun. So, I said, can I help you? He said, no, no I’m fine. I just got here from Alabama and I have a leaky radiator and so I’ve built it all the way from Alabama. I said, oh my goodness. You drove, I just got here. I said, ‘Why did you come here from Alabama?’ He said, ‘Well, my wife and baby are home. I didn’t have a job. A friend out here offered me a trucking job. So, I just got here.’ I said, ‘Do you ever drive a truck before?’ He says, ‘No.’ I said, ‘Are you a little worried about that?’ He says, ‘You think?’ And I said, ‘I had this little bitty car wax company and I found these scriptures.’ He says, “When you trust the Lord with your whole heart, he’ll direct your steps.” He says, ‘I didn’t know God did that.’ I said, ‘Yeah. God has a whole plan for you.’

Lance: Wow.

Barry Maguire: He loves you. He has a plan for you and so I pulled out and I gave him this card. We give these cards free of charge and I said, ‘We don’t have time to talk right now. If you go to that QR code, that’ll tell you how much God loves you and how he has a plan for your life.’ He looked at that card. He says, ‘Now get that from this website.’ I said, ‘Oh man, you’ll not believe what’s on that website “SeekingGod.org”. He said, ‘Oh that is fantastic.’ I said, ‘Can I pray for you?’ He said, ‘Would you?’ And I’m praying for him. Okay? And it’s so emotional. When we finish, he’s crying. He’s all teared up. And he hugs me tightly. And when he releases, he says, ‘Thank you.’

Lance: Oh my God.

Barry Maguire: Now I could have parked over there and just walked in.

Lance: That’s right. You could have seen a guy just taking care of his car.

Barry Maguire: Yeah.

Lance: You could have been prejudiced and say, well, I don’t want to [INAUDIBLE 15:13].

Barry Maguire: Go somewhere else. No, no. When things happen.

Lance: That’s the kingdom.

Barry Maguire: You get a flat-flat tire and you’re on your way to a court an appointment. You say, God well thank you a lot. Where are you now? But the 3 guy, the white guy comes. You see he’s downcast. He’s not talking. He’s mad. You find a son committed suicide the night before. And you have an to witness to him and then he also you find the appointment you’re going to get cancelled.

Lance: You know what Barry? I think we ought to have a regular interview with you on the latest Barry Maguire updates and I always want to have the latest story but look at that. Get a QR code.

Barry Maguire: Yeah.

Lance: On your business card folks. Or have a card ready because I’m always thinking.

Barry Maguire: Free of charge. Free of charge. We don’t charge anything. This is all about everybody else’s ministry.

Lance: I love it. Alright, listen. Barry Maguire, once again, go get the book. “Ignite Your Life with Barry Maguire”. This is one of the great business success stories. He doesn’t tell people but it’s really how Jesus can prosper you and give you a boat and fill it with fish. That’s an entrepreneurial promise. Thank you, Barry.

Lance: Eric Metaxas, ladies and gentlemen. The applause is there. I hear the applause.

Eric Metaxas: Thank you very much. I think you may be confusing me with someone else but thank you anyway. I want to say thank you.

Lance: Alright, so Eric Gary you’ve been how many NRBs have you done? Now we’re at the NRB.

Eric Metaxas: I don’t know. I’ve lost track. I’ve just come. They forced me to come every year for years. So, I come some of it I hate. Some of it I love. But here I am again.

Lance: Give to me the pulse read. This is Christian media. This is the religious national religious broadcast, right?

Eric Metaxas: Right.

Lance: So, I’ve only been here like this second year and so I’m trying to get a feel for it. But describe to me where the church is in terms of its consensus on subjects based on what you’re running into.

Eric Metaxas: I don’t know, well I can say for sure I know that there’s no answer to that. Because even when we talk about the church what is the church? Who is the church? Who thinks they’re part of the church who God doesn’t consider part of the church? I mean this goes back to the Old Testament. The people of God are the people of God. But why are the prophets calling the people of God to actually be the people of God? Because they are worshiping idols because they’re not being the people of God. Jesus calls the people of God to be the people of God. You see this over and over through history. So, when you talk about the church what is the church? The Lord knows who the church is and what the church is. One thing I can say right now is that as always God is calling the church to be the church because much of the church is not being the church.

My book “Letter to the American Church” was written, because I said the parallels between the rise of the Nazis. How that silence of the church in Germany absolutely accounts for the rise of the Nazis. The silence and the inaction of the German church at the time. These were not Hitler worshiping, Satan worshiping pastors. These were many of them. Good pastors who were deceived. They were lazy. They were fearful. Whatever the excuses were.

Lance: What would what made Bonhoeffer different?

Eric Metaxas: Well, what makes anybody different? Some people see things and we say, oh, he’s prophetic. Well, Bonhoeffer was not like prophetic in the sense that our friend Chris Reed is prophetic but the point is that if you’re hearing from God and you’re in tune with what God is saying, you see certain things and you want to say to the people, hey, are you missing this? And often times the people of God are missing it. So, in Germany you had let let’s put it this way. What are the parallels? I mean the reason I wrote “Letter to the American Church” is to say the parallels are astonishing.

Lance: How the silence everywhere I go people are quoting that book.

Eric Metaxas: Well, that’s nice. The silence of the I mean the goal is not just to get people to read it. The goal is to get people to live it and to repent of their silence. Because if the church does not get this. It’s over. The church is has been called by God to be his voice and the reason I’d say I mentioned the Germans is because having written a book on Bonhoeffer. I can tell you a lot of good guys got it wrong. They would say, well, Romans 13, we’re not supposed to be political we’re supposed to go along with the governing authorities just preach the gospel. That is nonsense. Jesus didn’t just preach the gospel. Jesus called out corruption and sin. Jesus said things that would drive people away from him.

Lance: So, many things are going through my head right now. Can you get me a pen? I want to ask you have you read Gorsuch’s opinion yet as his commentary on?

Eric Metaxas: I don’t read judicial opinion.

Lance: Alright, well listen there’s an article that you’ll see him quoted like today in several articles.

Eric Metaxas: Yeah.

Lance: Somebody who does it digesting of the opinion.

Eric Metaxas: Right.

Lance: Here’s what he said. Unprecedented loss of freedom and autonomy took place during the COVID lockdowns. And he’s literally delivering a Supreme Court warning to Americans saying, you have allowed the government to overreach and it happened on your watch because you’re the who have to respond and put a restraint on them. He’s giving like a wink-wink. You guys, it’s almost like saying…

Eric Metaxas: That’s beautiful. Praise God.

Lance: You’re giving up your freedom too easily.

Eric Metaxas: Yeah. Well, now think about this. This is true of every American, every American but it is particularly true of the church, of the Christians. If you dare to call yourself a Christian, you’re called to a higher standard. You’re supposed to fear God, you’re supposed to not fear man and so basically in Letter to the American Church”, I’m saying that we know how it happened when the Nazis rose to par. It’s very easy for us to oh the church was silent. They should have seen what was happening. Why didn’t they see what’s happening? How did that happen by the way that the church didn’t see it? It happened precisely as it is happening this minute in the American people.

Lance: Attention people.

Eric Metaxas: I mean I’m not being hyperbolical or histrionic. I am telling you this is a fact. If we are so arrogant to think that somehow, we’re uniquely somehow inoculated against what happened to the German church don’t you understand that’s what the German church thought. The German church thought, hey, we’re the German church, we gave the world Luther and Protestantism. We would never slide into an abyss of satanic evil we would not, that can’t happen here. Because of that arrogance because they took the eye off the ball because they overinterpreted or over focused on Romans 13, they allowed Anti-Christian forces, anti-liberty forces to take over the country. All Hitler and the Nazis had to do is neutralize the church just long enough to get away with it and that’s exactly what they did.

And that’s exactly what’s happening in America. This minute thanks to many pastors. I could name half of them who are just acting like this is not my problem. That’s not my lane. I just I’m a theological guy. I just preached the gospel. That is baloney. That not the biblical mandate.

Lance: And so, I just want to give a word of hope to people out there. Because the other day I was thinking about this how exactly we’re in a similar place and the direction I want to go next is I am concerned that the compromising Christians that are trying to call out from January 6th to vaccines to this and that the election fraud. They have the wrong narrative on all those things.

Eric Metaxas: Yeah.

Lance: My concern is and I want to tee it up in a second. That they will become the state church such as the approved church was for.

Eric Metaxas: Wow.

Lance: So that there’s a division between the housekeeping seal of approval preachers and the insurrectionist.

Eric Metaxas: Okay, I’m not actually worried about that. I think that anybody, listen there are people sometimes it’s just ignorance I’m not trying to be mean okay, but people that I would consider good guys, okay? Whether it’s Franklin Graham or Robert Jeffers, totally good guys. They were pushing the vaccine, right? Now there are some bad guys that were pushing the vaccine. But the point is everybody has permission to get stuff wrong. As long as you eventually say, oh, I got it wrong and you repent. There are plenty people. Naomi Wolf not a Christian that I know of, but she publicly wrote a repentant essay about participating in the demonization of the January 6 people and then she sees a few clips on Tucker Carlson and realizes son of a gun I was wrong. She has the courage to publicly repent of. So, it doesn’t matter.

Lance: That’s an intellectually honest liberal.

Eric Metaxas: Well, there you go. But it doesn’t matter if you get stuff wrong. The question is, do you eventually get it right, do you repent, and do you tell people I got this wrong? So, right now you still have tons of conservatives and tons of evangelicals going along with the establishment narrative the lies about January 6th there were some bad people debate. Yeah, the FBI from the deep state Nancy Paul.

Lance: 1,000 hours of video. You can’t see and you know why? Does anybody even realize why? Because there’s so many underground FBI agents that will be outed.

Eric Metaxas: Yeah.

Lance: It would blow their cupboard. But seriously, you can’t see it because they’re so ubiquitous. They’re so in the crowd that they can’t afford to show you it because they got hundreds of them.

Eric Metaxas: Right. But so, they’re lying to the American people. They’re deceiving the American people which is satanic, okay? Patriots have died.

Lance: Well, but let’s go down and check that out.

Eric Metaxas: That we the people could govern ourselves. They have decided, well, not anymore. We got to cover here.

Lance: What about the election? You were, I saw that wonderful Danish decision thing.

Eric Metaxas: That’s one piece of it. Dinesh D’Souza, I’m in 2000 Mules. I play the role of Evil Knievel if you’ve seen that film. Just kidding. But if you seen 2000 Mules, that’s one level of voter fraud and stealing an election. There’re all kinds of other stuff. All we need to know is that the Democrats no longer care whether they have to steal something or what. In other words, that they have thrown if you’re all in with the Marxist atheist worldview, suddenly you don’t care about right or wrong, you have no shame and you’ll do anything to win. So, if they have to steal an election look, they are…

Lance: Morally justifiable.

Eric Metaxas: Well, the point is they actually in their minds believed that by not allowing Donald Trump to be elected they’re saving America from Hitler 2.0. they actually believe that.

Lance: That’s the time article by Mary Ball, where they’re literally high fiving each other and exposing the fact that they had a vast conspiracy.

Eric Metaxas: But I mean you have to understand there’s so many levels to it and this is why people tend to tune out. Because there’s so many levels of the conspiracy. The bottom line is we have to be clear on one thing. They stole the election. It’s despicable. We the people wanted Donald Trump to be president. I don’t care what you think about Trump but if you don’t care about fair elections. You’re a bum. You’re anti-American.

Lance: Yeah.

Eric Metaxas: And there are tons of people that act like, well, what’s done is done. It doesn’t matter. It doesn’t matter. If your children are raped and you say well there’s nothing, I can do about it now. I mean that’s really not a helpful attitude. You need to say this is wrong. You need to condemn it. You need to deal with it. And the fact of the matter is when you’re talking about even the plausibility. Just the plausibility that the election was stolen. Everybody should be all over we need to get to the bottom of this make sure it didn’t happen, make sure let let’s look into it. And then you’re being told no you can’t talk about it.

Lance: No, think about it, if a plane crashes you want the black box you want to go find out what happened. You don’t want to say, what are…

Eric Metaxas: Conspiracy theorist. What kind of person would tell you, no, you can’t talk about that? Well, that’s basically my whole show was wiped off of YouTube.

Lance: Were you shocked that Tucker was taken down speaking of?

Eric Metaxas: Well, I mean of course I was shocked but then again shocked compared to what? I mean at the end of the day people should boycott Fox News, because frankly for them to do that they reveal their true colors. I honestly think no, look it’s despicable. They need to be called out on what they did. What?

Lance: I was laughing because I was expected to day that why would they boycott Fox News? I mean there’s something on Fox.

Eric Metaxas: Look, what I’m trying to say is when people do stuff like this, they need to know I’m going to pay a price.

Lance: Yes.

Eric Metaxas: They are so cynical okay the Murdoch Klan is so cynical. They don’t give a damn about American freedom and self-government. They care about Fox News.

Lance: Right.

Eric Metaxas: That’s not why people watch them. People had this idea that they actually cared about America. So, when you do things like you get rid of Lou Dobbs. You get rid of Tucker Carlson. I want to know why I should ever take you seriously again. I mean you’re revealing yourself to be in bed with the devil and I’d like you to, I don’t see them Changing. I don’t see. I mean honestly, it’s just disgusting to me but it’s like talking about the New York Times. Do they ever publish something that might be worth reading? Yes. That doesn’t mean that I’m ever going to take them seriously again as journalists because they have revealed themselves and so we’re living in a time where people kind of have to wake up.

People have to say where can I get the truth? Okay, Steve Bannon maybe. Maybe Eric Metaxas and I can mention a handful of others. That’s about it. But there are a lot of people they don’t care. Don’t want to know but I’ve always believed that there’s a remnant of people that do care. I mean listen when this country in 1776 is saying to George Washington, we need to fight tyranny. In the natural, they should have lost. But there were tons of people who were on board they were Tories they were on board with, they don’t want anyone to fight.

Lance: Right, now so speaking of Bannon because this show will come on right before Steve. Bannon talks about the fourth turning concept a lot. The third, a third and a third. A third of the country were with the Tories.

Eric Metaxas: Right.

Lance: A third of the country with the Patriots.

Eric Metaxas: Right.

Lance: I think we’re talking to the third of America that’s halty between 2 opinions.

Eric Metaxas: That’s always the case.

Lance: Okay.

Eric Metaxas: And I mean that’s what letter to the American church is about. It says that in Germany there were 3000 Lutheran pastors that not only signed the Barman Declaration that stood heroically against the Nazis, okay? 3000. There were 3,000, it would be the totally pro-Nazi woke maniacs on that other side. In the middle were 12,000 Lutheran pastors who said, you know what? We’re not going to choose. We’re going to hang back and see which way the wind blows. We’re going to stay in the safe religious middle, they thought. That’s the devil’s territory.

Lance: Right.

Eric Metaxas: They enable the Nazis to take over the country to murder millions of Jews It was those members of the church in their silence and in action trying to play the political game like we’re just going to hang back here. We don’t want to be radical. We don’t want to get political. That’s where we are in America. You’ve got a ton of people in the middle especially in the church who have been deceived into thinking somehow that they don’t need to choose. That they don’t want to be political.

Lance: Right.

Eric Metaxas: That is a lie from the pit of hell.

Lance: Right.

Eric Metaxas: That is absolute nonsense. It’s insane, but they have bought these lies and so it’s one thing to look at the German church and say, oh how terrible they were. They didn’t stand up against Hitler. Well, I’m here to say American pastors that are not standing up and letting other people take the heat. Letting other people get cancelled. God is judging them and will judge them. Now I wrote the book hoping that they will read it and repent and say, you know what? I hadn’t thought of this. I’ve been getting this wrong. I need to speak out. God has called me to speak out. God has given me the authority to speak out and I’ve been kind of playing church. But there are a lot of people that they’d rather play church, but I’m just here to say that judgement is coming. Judgement has come, Jesus cursed the fig tree. This is not someday, someday, someday the churches that are unwilling to stand up for truth.

When you have lives being destroyed, Lance. I mean, young people’s lives are being destroyed because of the transgender madness. Families are being torn apart. We have a southern border letting in fentanyl letting most evil.

Lance: Terrorist coming.

Eric Metaxas: Members, terrorist, cartel like the most evil stuff and there are many pastors saying, well, that’s not my lane.  I just want to say you are out of your mind. That is your lane.

Lance: I don’t know if we talked about this before, but I remember there was a book there’s a PhD thesis that was published as a book and I got to find it. Because I read the description and I never forgot. It was a guy that wrote a book on what was preached in American Pulpits during the Civil War. The research for this guy’s degree was in the South they preached not pro slavery but States’ rights.

Eric Metaxas: Of course.

Lance: Tyranny of the North how dare they come and rob us of our constitutional autonomy. In the North, they preach the evils of slavery and the judgement on America. Now here’s the guy’s thesis. What did they preach in the border states?

Eric Metaxas: Yeah.

Lance: So, now you got Maryland, you got Delaware, you got like Kentucky, North Kentucky. They preached stay out of politics and focus on the kingdom of God.

Eric Metaxas: Yeah. As if you could.

Lance: They preached spirituality, salvation, and kingdom. God didn’t call us to strife. He called us to the kingdom.

Eric Metaxas: Jesus doesn’t specifically refer to raping children as bad. So, I don’t see that as a gospel-related issue. I’m going to step back. I mean, this is just nonsense. Anyone with common sense. You don’t need to be a Christian. Anyone with any common sense understands these are moral issues.

Lance: They are.

Eric Metaxas: And then Jesus spoke about.

Lance: And the punchline is every pulpit is a border state. And so, every preacher is on the border. You have to determine if you’re going to be preaching. Look forward 5 years from now and look back and say what would you wish you would have done. Look at how nobody was a Nazi. Once the Nazis came down. Who’s the Nazi?

Eric Metaxas: But that’s the point.

Lance: By the way, I have an uncle Mike. I call my uncle. I got; I know go wait one minute over. Let me just go one minute over. I got to fight with my staff to get my own show. One I know he’s got to go. He’s got to go.

Eric Metaxas: I don’t have to.

Lance: I got to tell you a story. I grew up. I’ll get in trouble for this one. Someone’s going to hate this. I grew up with my parents had my father had an oil company. Now he’s Jewish and hid it. And it came out later on.

Eric Metaxas: He hid his Jewish.

Lance: He hid his Jewish.

Eric Metaxas: He didn’t hide the oil company.

Lance: No.

Eric Metaxas: He hid his Jewish.

Lance: Nothing puncture about being in the oil, but he had a little bit of guilt about being Jewish. Only because they were prejudice at Exxon.

Eric Metaxas: Yeah.

Lance: So, he was so get this. He hires a German immigrant and his wife who comes to the United States. As housekeepers, they were young couples, my parents and them. And so, he works. My dad had service stations.

Eric Metaxas: Yeah.

Lance: And he was a manager. Gerhard was running the service stations. Gerhard and he takes me on vacation when they were like Aunt Lisa and Uncle Jerry. And he’s a strong charm and accent and he’s talking like this and I said as a 10-year-old would go, ‘Hey Uncle Jerry, did you ever meet Hitler? It was kind of…

Eric Metaxas: Awkward. That’s very funny.

Lance: Awkward conversation.

Eric Metaxas: Uncle Jerry, did you ever Hitler.

Lance: And so, he’s looking in the rear-view mirror. He goes, Ah. Yeah. I said, ‘You met him?’ He said, ‘It’s very difficult story. When we were into depression and after Rails were won and we were grounded the ground and this man came along and he gave us our respect. He gave us our dignity.’

Eric Metaxas: Yeah.

Lance: ‘And he came by 1 day when I was in the army and I looked in his eyes and we all saluted him. He was like a God to be.’

Eric Metaxas: Yeah.

Lance: I said, ‘Well what happened?’ He says, ‘That he got power and we found out that he was butt shit crazy.’

Eric Metaxas: He actually said that, that’s before the term well, I got, listen, I just want to say that we want to have grace, okay? There are tons of pastors and Christians in America getting this wrong. Now, I’m here to say to them, God will judge you but he has grace. He wants you to repent. So, I wrote “Letter to the American Church” because I know there are people it this hasn’t occurred to them. They haven’t heard this yet. When you hear what happened in Germany, how it’s exactly what is happening here. When you hear what in America during slavery times. I mean the fact of the matter is people said it’s not a gospel related issue. We don’t want to have a divided congregation. Now we know these are moral pygmies.

Lance: Right.

Eric Metaxas: You can’t from reading the scripture know that God is against slavery. You didn’t want to talk about that. Maybe you are a coward. Well, the point is that we we’re facing the same things now. We’re facing satanic evil. It’s globalism…

Lance: Genital mutilation of children. Forget the bigger the genital mutilation of children. And you’re being silent because you’re trying to [INAUDIBLE WORD 37:48].

Eric Metaxas: There’re pastors who are thinking I don’t want to lose my big tithe or I don’t want people to leave my church so I’ll be silent on this. I’m here to say God will judge you. He’s already judging you for that. Please, please, please repent. Take this seriously. The nation looks to the church. God has is instituted the church as the conscience of the nation.

Lance: Amen.

Eric Metaxas: And Bonhoeffer said that and the German pastors didn’t want to hear it. I’m saying it now because Bonhoeffer said it because it’s true and we have far less excuse in America. Because let’s face it, we have the example of what happened in Germany when the church was silent. They didn’t have the example. They thought these evils will never happen. They can’t happen.

Lance: Oh my God.

Eric Metaxas: And when they happened, it was too late.

Lance: Eric Metaxas, ladies and gentlemen, the one and only inimitable Eric Metaxas. Eric, how can they follow you? You’re on TVA.

Eric Metaxas: If people can spell my name, Eric Metaxas, they’re obliged to go. This is federal law now. Go to “EricMetaxas.com”. You have to sign up for my newsletter. If you don’t do that, bad stuff’s going to happen.

Lance: Yeah.

Eric Metaxas: So, just go to EricMetaxas.com. Otherwise, the FBI will probably knock down your front door. Just do it. “EricMetaxas.com” and they can follow me. I do a lot of stuff along the lines of what we’re talking about. Some of it lighter, funnier, but we’ll leave it at that.

Lance: Nothing like talking about Nazis to bring out the humor.
