IRS Posts Criminal Investigation Agent Job Openings, Later Removes from Site

Rumors have been flying ever since word got out regarding a seemingly unusual job position for the IRS. The position is in their CI department (Criminal Investigation), posted early in the day for Criminal Investigation Agents.
The job description of the position’s significant duties includes the need to carry a firearm, possible use of deadly force, and more.

According to @FordFischer, this is linked to a report from 2018.

“Between March 1 and June 1, 2022, the criminal division of the IRS ordered $696,000 in ammunition, the IRS told VERIFY in an email.”

When trying the link found in another of Fischer’s tweets to the job position, I found it no longer worked.

At one point it showed a completely different job listing with the CI Agent position nowhere to be found. Other times the page wouldn’t populate at all.

Fischer also tweeted, “The job listing for special agents at the IRS links to their department’s 2021 annual report.” He also said that the position could be placed overseas. Additionally, the report states, the “IRS: CI HAS SPECIAL AGENT attachés strategically stationed in 11 foreign countries.”

While the reasons are unknown why the position was seemingly removed from the jobs.irs.gov page, one can of course, easily speculate as their reasons why.

One could also wonder whether this CI job might be one of the reported 87,000 new positions with the IRS.
