Why is Trump dumping on Elon? I heard an interview with Trump two months ago where he spoke of Elon in rather endearing terms, “He’s a national treasure. Like Edison. We have to protect people like him.”
So why has Trump turned? Two things.
Elon came out in support of DeSantis for President. He didn’t think Trump would be the right person for 2024.
Secondly, Elon said he would vote Republican in the future, which implies he didn’t vote that way in the past. Apparently, in private, he told Trump he voted for him.
Add to this the fact that Trump’s “Truth Social” is in competition with Twitter and Elon (till he backed out) and you see how Elon is a competing and not complementary force in Trump’s universe.
NEVERTHELESS…
This is the weakness in Trump’s personality. Imagine how much stronger his movement would be if he said, “I like Elon. He’s like a lot of American voters who are just now waking up to how radical and self destructive the democrats have become. They are destroying our nation. We’ll need all the firepower we can muster to take back what’s left of this country in 2 years. I’m glad he’s on our side… which is the side that will save Tesla and every other working family from the jaws of these dangerous Marxist Democrats.”
Talk about a sound bite!
