Jim Jordan was the nominee for Speaker last week but lost all three rounds of votes. This week, Republicans met secretly behind closed doors to vote for a new nominee: Rep. (MN)-R Tom Emmer.
The Rep. from Minnesota, the GOP Majority Whip, emerged to become the candidate for Speaker to proceed to a House floor vote. Emmer steadily picked up support in multiple rounds of voting and finally drew a majority of votes in a fifth ballot. President Trump was recently asked if he would endorse Emmer for Speaker. “He’s my biggest fan now because he called me yesterday and told me he’s my biggest fan, but we’re looking at a lot of people,” Trump said. “I’m trying to stay out of that as much as possible.”
Important points to note: Emmer has been known for supporting the abolition of the Electoral College, his unwavering support for Ukraine funding, defending Ilhan Omar, and vocally criticizing MAGA supporters.
President Trump later posted on his Truth social media platform, calling Emmer a Globalist RINO.
Trump also stated he has “…Wonderful friends wanting to be Speaker of the House, and some are truly great Warriors. RINO Tom Emmer, who I do not know well, is not one of them. He never respected the Power of a Trump Endorsement, or the breadth and scope of MAGA—MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!”

Emmer has since dropped out of the race for Speaker which was announced barely an hour after President Trump called him a RINO on Truth.
