Here’s What Happens Now That Congress Has Voted On Impeachment

On Wednesday, the Republican-controlled House of Representatives voted 221-212 along party lines to authorize an “impeachment inquiry” of President Joe Biden over corruption allegations.
The vote came just hours after Hunter Biden thumbed his nose at Congress by showing up on Capitol Hill only to hold a press conference outside when he was scheduled to be deposed.
Much confusion has surrounded the “impeachment inquiry” vote. So, is President Biden impeached or was this just the first step in the process?
The impeachment process had already begun three months ago. Wednesday’s vote formally authorizes the probe, provides additional resources to the existing investigation and will strengthen Republicans’ legal case in court and out of court.
The Biden White House had previously stalled Republicans’ requests for documents by citing the lack of a formal vote by the full House. Three GOP-controlled committees leading the probe will now have more legal backing when demanding documentation.
Given how the impeachment process was weaponized against President Trump, it is easy to dismiss the impeachment vote as political. However, the truth is that President Biden stands accused of much more serious offenses than anything for which President Trump was falsely accused.
The White House, Joe Biden, Democrat apparatus and Hunter himself have circled the wagons by citing a lack of evidence. However, House Republicans continue to provide new and apparently credible information surrounding how the Biden Family enriched themselves through foreign business deals while Joe Biden served as Vice President.
All four presidents who have faced an impeachment investigation were ultimately impeached with the exception of Richard Nixon who resigned. Consequently, it’s safe to assume that there will be a trial in the U.S. Senate in the lead up to the 2024 Presidential Election.
The devastating news could not come at a worse time for President Biden as recent polls have shown him losing to President Trump nationally and in virtually every swing state.
A new poll from the Wall Street Journal shows Biden with a record-low 37 percent approval rating and a stunning 61 percent disapproval rating. Even worse (or better), the same survey found Biden losing to Trump by four points nationally and by six points when third party candidates are included.
Despite four indictments, President Trump appears to be poised for a momentous victory in the Republican primary and in the general election–unless Democrats can find a way to jail him first.
