Why Joe Biden Supporters Should Be Concerned

It’s a known fact that Joe Biden is known for his gaffes but he hasn’t disappointed this year with a batch of new ones. The severity to which they have been this year have many asking questions about his age (76) and mental fitness.

The gaffes seem to have amped up in recent weeks. It began with a strange remark when he said, “poor kids are just as smart as white kids”.

Soon after, he confused the recent Britsh Prime Minister Theresa May with a deceased PM, Margaret Thatcher.

He also confused the cities of recent mass shootings and the time in which they occurred, repeatedly claiming that he met with the Parkland Shooter survivors as Vice President even though Donald Trump was President at the time.

Lastly, just the other day while talking to reporters in Massachussets Biden said,

“I’ve been here a number of times… I love this place. Look, what’s not to like about Vermont in terms of the beauty of it? And what a neat town. This is like a scenic, beautiful town.”

Biden’s campaign swears his mental fitness and health are top-notch, but there has been some concern on how it will affect his campaign.

At this point, few of his rivals have dared to approach the subject of his seniority. Eric Swalwell, the only candidate to bring up Bidens age, has since withdrawn from the race. Trump appears eager to play into this narrative, which might have the effect of taking the focus off of the media’s coverage of his own questioned mental fitness and age.

Bidens supporters insist nobody cares about this except his rivals, the media and a Republican Party eager to diminish him as a viable opponent.

Still, many Biden supporters are not deterred with one telling the New York Times,

“Getting Joe biden to meet people is the best thing for the Joe Biden campaign,” citing a recent nearly two-hour meeting with the Congressional Hispanic Caucus. ”Nobody in that room left concerned about his ability to beat Donald Trump,” they concluded.

Despite Joe Biden being a self-proclaimed “gaffe machine”, Democrats and many independents seem to still support him.

However, one of his former colleagues has raised some concerns. Former Obama White House Senior Adviser David Axelrod told the Associated Press, “He’s always been prone to gaffes. That was true in his 40’s, 50’s, and 60’s. The difference is because people are looking for signs of potential deterioration, gaffes that would be written off as Joe being Joe can become much more damaging to him.”

If Joe Biden can’t figure out how to stop stumbling over his words, it will continue to serve as an albatross on his campaign and the entire Democrat Party.
