A Capitol Police officer died from his injuries Friday after a man rammed a car into two officers at a barricade outside the U.S. Capitol and then emerged wielding a knife.
According to a press briefing earlier today, Acting Chief of Capitol Police Yogananda Pittman shared that the driver stabbed one of the officers.

Authorities shot the suspect, who later died at a hospital.

NBC has named the suspect, Noah Green, and a supporter of the Nation of Islam, a 26 year old from Virginia.

Pittman asked the public to keep the officer’s family and the U.S. Capitol Police force in their prayers. The officer who died in the line of duty is an 18 year Capitol Hill Police veteran, Billy Evans.

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi ordered that Capitol flags be flown at half-staff in support of the officer who was killed.

The Capitol grounds were placed under a lockdown following the incident.

According to law enforcement officials, this situation does not appear to be an act of terrorism.
