Alexandria Ocasio Cortez was called out during a town hall meeting this week. While she hosted a Q&A portion during the event, a protester began yelling at the Democrat lawmaker for her support of sending aid to Ukraine as its military fends off an invasion from Russia. The protestors claimed she was a hypocrite and that she was sending the United States into a nuclear war.
“None of this matters unless there’s a nuclear war, which you voted to send arms and weapons to Ukraine,” the protester said, according to a video posted on social media. “You ran as an outsider, yet you’ve been voting to start this war in Ukraine. You’re voting to start a third nuclear war with Russia and China. Why are you playing with the lives of American citizens?”
The New York Democrat voted to send $40 billion in military and humanitarian aid to Ukraine in early May. That bill passed the House with a 368-57 vote.
Ocasio-Cortez has also introduced legislation seeking to provide debt relief to Ukrainians and coordinate debt payments amid the war.
