Senator Mike Lee (R-UT) questions AG Merrick Garland on the treatment of pro-life activist Mark Houk compared to pro-abortion vandals who have attacked dozens of pro-life resource centers. Senator Lee referred to a situation where Houk was targeted by a “highly militarized DOJ team” and, according to Houck’s wife, a “team of 25 SWAT members” who came to the family’s door early one Friday morning.
After pointing out that charges against Houck for violating the FACE Act (Freedom of Access to Clinic Entrances) were dismissed this month in court, Senator Lee asked Garland to explain the disparity in treatment.
Garland’s response, which included referring to the FACE Act, shows how it is disproportionately used against peaceful demonstrators instead of violent criminals. Garland also explained the attacks on Catholic churches and pro-life resource centers were due to the difficulty of identifying the attackers because they were “done at nighttime.”
